Those anglers who venture to Atwood who are not fishing for saugeyes are typically looking for bass.

The 1,148-acre lake, just outside of Hillsboro near Greenfield, was created in the late 1960s and early 1970s by the damming of Paint Creek, which drains an area of 753 square miles.

The growth rate for saugeyes is attributable to an abundant population of forage species, particularly shad.

If you’re an angling generalist just looking to catch some fish, Ross wouldn’t be a bad bet.

“Probably the best saugeye lake in the state. It’s just a factory for them.”

Abundant shoreline cover and deep-water structure support a diverse fishery at 290-acre Springfield Lake in northeast Ohio.

Piedmont veterans find the most fish by targeting the submerged roadbeds near the dam.

And Buckeye is one of the few places in the state that has hybrid striped bass among its offerings.

There is also a moderately good population of largemouth bass.
