West-central Minnesota’s Lake Reno site of angling pressure study

This winter, anglers who fish Lake Reno near Glenwood likely will catch some of the 4,000 bluegills, black crappies, sunfish, and walleyes that Minnesota DNR fisheries crews tagged throughout the fall.
DNR fisheries personnel in Glenwood are hoping to learn more about fish movement and angler behavior with this tagged-fish initiative that might better inform management.

Minnesota’s Outdoor Heritage Council names next executive director

During the Nov. 12 Minnesota Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council meeting, members approved a new executive director, Kristina Smitten, to take over the role that Mark Johnson has held for more than a decade.
While Smitten was selected, there was not unanimous approval among council members, citing both her candidacy and how it was decided to have only one interviewee meet with the entire council at a public meeting.

Minnesota DNR completes aerial surveys of northeastern trout streams

Each year, the Duluth and Hinckley area fisheries offices work with Minnesota DNR pilots to traverse miles of riverways to locate any blockages that may inhibit natural trout movement.
This year’s helicopter surveys just wrapped up in the northeast at the Knife River.
“It’s our longest-running survey, as far as the helicopters are concerned. … It’s pretty critical for the trout,” DNR pilot Grace Zeller said.
