Minnesota DNR to host public engagement sessions on Upper Sioux Agency State Park and outdoor recreation in the Minnesota River Valley

No early muskie opener for northern Wisconsin, nor year-round St. Croix River walleye

The Wisconsin DNR will propose lowering the statewide daily walleye bag limit to three fish when the Natural Resources Board meets in Milwaukee Wednesday, June 28, but the agency will not ask the board to approve an earlier muskie season opener in northern Wisconsin, nor a year-round game fish season on the St. Croix River.

Schroon Lake takes New York’s varsity trap league title

More than 95 scholastic teams featuring over 1,200 student athletes took part in the statewide competition of the New York State High School Clay Target League, held June 10-11, at the at Bridgeport Rod and Gun Club, in Cicero, near Syracuse. 
There, Schroon Lake Central School, based in Essex County in the Adirondacks, walked away with the overall title tallying a score of 473, 12 birds better than second place Red Jacket High School, from Ontario County.

Work at Iowa’s Towhead Lake supports grassland species, upland gamebirds

Towhead Lake was once a natural shallow lake, with a network of connected wetlands, considered sovereign land by the state highway commission when it visited the area in the 1910s.
With a maximum depth of just over three feet, an apparent lack of fish, and a thick stand of rushes and marsh grass, the 1916 Survey of Highway Commission suggested in its survey report that the lake be drained and the resulting land maintained in state ownership.
