Michigan waterfowl areas winged by DNR budget woes

Michigan waterfowl hunters will have fewer chances to participate in daily permit drawings at some of the state’s most popular managed hunting areas this fall as DNR scales back operations because of declining revenues, rising costs, and growing maintenance needs.
Beginning after the opening weekends of the 2026 duck season, the agency will reduce staffing and operating hours at four managed waterfowl areas.
