Mississippi River boat ramp extensions in Guttenberg, Iowa, await permit approval

Pending approval of a permit by the Army Corps of Engineers, a cooperative project between the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and city of Guttenberg will allow boaters easier access to the Mississippi River.
The project will provide for five-foot-by-15-foot concrete extensions on three ramps at the city landing, the only access for Pool 11 located in the city limits, easing fears of boaters whose trailers have fallen off the existing ramps, especially during periods of low water.
“Right now, there is a significant drop-off for trailers,” said Jamie Blume, assistant city manager.

The largest expenditure was for a new design-guide shelter at Red Haw State Park, located near Chariton in Lucas County, at a cost of $201,760. Iowa Bumble Bee Atlas delayed until spring 2024

Due to “unforeseen circumstances,” the launch of Iowa’s effort to bring a focus on protection and preservation of bumble bees in the state has been delayed until 2024.
According to The Xerces Society, the Oregon-based group coordinating the effort, the official start of the Iowa program will take place in the spring of next year.  The campaign, unofficially begun this summer, was launched as part of a regional approach to improve bumble bee numbers. Other states in the coalition include Nebraska, Missouri and Minnesota.
