Dangerously thin Siscowet lake trout populations have motivated the Michigan DNR and fish pathologists from Michigan State University to sink to the deepest point of Lake Superior to better investigate what is hampering the species.
Siscowets, a deep-water variant of the common lake trout, are uniquely adapted to the extreme depths of Lake Superior. They are typically characterized by a deep body, small head and an incredibly high body fat content.
