Decline of yellow perch in Michigan’s Saginaw Bay a ‘survival problem’

The pattern of declining yellow perch survival rates in Saginaw Bay appears to be continuing its downward trend, according to the information shared by Research Biologist Dave Fielder, of the Michigan DNR.
Fielder noted historical harvest results that have been tracked by the DNR for nearly 40 years. Estimates indicate that the recreational harvest and year-round angler catch per unit effort, as well as the commercial yield of Saginaw Bay perch, have each dropped significantly from their respective record highs.
