Today walleye biologists estimate the population of 2-year-olds and older fish at around 116 million. To sweeten the pie the forecast for 2021 is an amazing 151 million.

Among the early returns has been a crappie fishery that has given up some large fish over the past several years.

During a netting survey conducted last fall, division crews caught close to 400 saugeyes on a three-night project, said Wolfe. Some of those fish taped up to 25 inches.
