Wisconsin angler is pulling thick fish from incredibly shallow depths under the ice

When ice fishing, Quinn Erdmann consistently catches big northern pike and walleyes in the shallowest water possible, often in as little as 8 inches of water below the ice.
“I get as close to shore as possible and look for big flat areas,” he said. “I’m not looking for weed lines or drop-offs. I believe the big predators have learned they can push baitfish into areas where the bottom and ice come together to block an escape.”
Erdmann, 26, of Slinger, Wis., gets strange looks from others walking or driving past him as they head for deeper water.

Wisconsin learn-to-hunt days recruit new hunters with a local and international impact

Wisconsin’s Bloomington Area Sportsman’s Club and local landowners hosted Grant County Outdoor Sports Alliance’s (GCOSA) learn-to-hunt day for pheasants on Oct. 20, with 22 kids and adults, including nine University of Wisconsin-Madison international students from Africa, Asia, and South America.
GCOSA volunteers also hosted a squirrel day the following weekend at Stitzer Sportsman’s Club with some of the same students.

Wisconsin 10-pointer is an antlered doe… or is it?

Lancaster high schooler Georgia Vesperman and her dad, Jerry, were surprised when they rolled over the Wisconsin 10-pointer she had dropped at 260 yards during the 2023 gun season. It had no visible male genitalia. They looked under its tail and found what you would expect for a doe, not a buck.
Jacob Vesperman is Georgia’s cousin. He said evidence already had him questioning the gender of this antlered deer.
“The history with this deer started about three years before my cousin Georgia shot it,” he said.

Bull elk hunters go four for four in first Jackson County, Wis., hunt

All four hunters who drew a once-in-a-lifetime elk tag in the Black River Falls zone of central Wisconsin were successful.
Two of them, Dryden Watry, of Green Lake, and Daniel “D.J.” Jolliffe, of Wisconsin Rapids, were among the 7,750 applicants for that zone, but they followed different paths to Jackson County elk-hunting success – one hunting private land, the other public land.
