Minnesota’s ‘CWD hunt’ harvest tops last year’s

As the 2025 archery deer season neared its Dec. 31 end, Minnesota almost had its final tally on chronic wasting disease from the hunting season.
During the late-CWD hunt from Friday, Dec. 19, to Sunday, Dec. 21, hunters harvested about 1,074 deer, which is about 24% higher than last year’s harvest of 869 deer. The 2025 season was just shy of doubling the 2023 late-CWD hunt when hunters harvested about 571 deer.

Commentary: Why do ticks seem to avoid some people more than others?

The tick problem described by Tom Venesky in his recent column is one I’ve dealt with for many years, both as a hunter and as a forester.

I did not.

Where things stand with the corner-crossing issue for hunters, anglers

If you laid a checkerboard grid over aerial photos of any county in the rural Upper Midwest, and declared each red square 640 acres of public land, you’d likely assume it’s OK to step from one red corner to the next without trespassing on a privately-owned black square.
Right?

Commentary: CMP clinics in Ohio are shaping the future of youth marksmanship

At this year’s First Shot Ceremony, the CEO and chairman of the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP), Gerald O’Keefe, remarked, “(The National Matches) are specified in the law, but the law doesn’t tell us what to do. It doesn’t tell us how big these events should be, what matches we should run, or how long they should be. But we are committed to making these matches as big as we can get them.”
His words echoed across the grounds of historic Camp Perry over 120 years after the National Matches had been cemented into law.
