Minnesota’s latest WMA, Keystone Woods, called an ‘incredible’ property in the Twin Cities metro area

Minnesota’s newest and most publicized state wildlife management area is now open for business for fall hunting and other traditional uses, although the east-metro unit is far from a finished product.
State officials say the new 1,820-acre Keystone Woods WMA in Washington County – a site the Minnesota DNR hopes will appeal to non-traditional users, given its proximity to a large metropolitan area – is in the “developmental stage” and will likely take a few years before it’s fully completed.

Patrick Durkin: Wife arrows big buck after couple’s 6-year hunt

Jess and Matt Weber will never know if it was the squirrel dumplings, turkey soup or a flurry of mid-afternoon trail-cam photos that put Jess in position to arrow a huge 10-point buck near Lake Geneva in southeastern Wisconsin.
Or maybe Jess should just credit her husband for letting her hunt while he watched their three youngsters the afternoon of Oct. 26, 2021. Then again, maybe she just outmaneuvered him by hiding his release while gathering her own gear and heading out, forcing him to babysit their kids, then 1, 3 and 6.

Minnesota’s Lake Winnie land exchange sees movement in D.C.

When Bowen Lodge owner Bill Heig saw that around 35 acres of public land was available by auction near his business on Minnesota’s Lake Winnibigoshish shoreline, he stepped in with the winning bid.
“A big California development group wanted to purchase, and they were aggressively doing that. We thought, wow, we have to stop that,” Heig said.
No, he didn’t purchase it to develop it for himself or to expand his family’s resort operation. Rather, he bought the property to preserve it.

Glenn Sapir: Some pocket knives have more lives than a cat

It’s said that a cat has nine lives. If true, that is impressive, but it doesn’t come close to the lives my pocket knife has. That little knife has been lost and given up for “gone” more times than I can remember.
Usually it goes missing for only a few days. I think two or three weeks may have been the longest period of time before it showed up again. I should realize by now that, just like a cat that always comes home, my knife, too, will reappear and come back into my life.

Minnesotan Easton Fothergill earns spot on Bassmaster ‘Elite’ roster

A little over a year ago, Easton Fothergill sat in a hospital room in Birmingham, Ala., with an infected mass on his brain, wondering if he would ever be able to bass fish again. Now, he has achieved a lifelong goal of becoming a Bassmaster Elite Series angler.
The Grand Rapids, Minn., native claimed the Tackle Warehouse Bassmaster Elite Qualifiers Angler of the Year title with a total of 1,606 points, earning the bass pro an invite to the 2025 Elite Series roster and a $45,000 check.
