Bassmaster to rein in live sonar for Elite Series in ’26

B.A.S.S., the worldwide authority on bass fishing, announced Tuesday an update to its forward-facing live sonar policy that will take effect during the 2026 Progressive Bassmaster Elite Series season.
Beginning in 2026, forward-facing live sonar will be permitted only in up to five of the nine regular-season Elite Series events. Which events allow the technology will be determined randomly.

At age 22, Minnesota’s Easton Fothergill breaks records, makes history with Bassmaster Classic win

Nineteen months ago, Easton Fothergill was lying on a gurney in an Alabama hospital, awaiting surgery to remove an infected abscess from his brain. 
Sunday afternoon, in front of thousands of fans at Dickies Arena, Fothergill stood tall as champion of the 2025 Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Classic presented by Under Armour.  Fothergill, a 22-year-old native of Grand Rapids, Minn., finished the three-day event on Lake Ray Roberts in Texas with a total of 15 bass for 76 pounds, 15 ounces. It was the biggest winning weight in the 55-year history of the most prestigious fishing tournament in the world.

Minnesotan Easton Fothergill earns spot on Bassmaster ‘Elite’ roster

A little over a year ago, Easton Fothergill sat in a hospital room in Birmingham, Ala., with an infected mass on his brain, wondering if he would ever be able to bass fish again. Now, he has achieved a lifelong goal of becoming a Bassmaster Elite Series angler.
The Grand Rapids, Minn., native claimed the Tackle Warehouse Bassmaster Elite Qualifiers Angler of the Year title with a total of 1,606 points, earning the bass pro an invite to the 2025 Elite Series roster and a $45,000 check.

Throughout his young fishing career, several unfortunate incidents have ruined Easton Fothergill’s chances at winning tournaments about which he felt confident.
Whether it was a mechanical issue or things he simply called “dumb stuff,” something always got in the way. In mid-August, the University of Montevallo (Alabama) junior and Grand Rapids, Minn., native thought he would be adding emergency brain surgery to the list of misfortunes that derailed his path to success.

After brain surgery, Minnesota angler set for Bassmaster Tourney

Easton Fothergill, of Grand Rapids, Minn., an angler at Alabama’s University of Montevallo, has been medically cleared to participate in the Bassmaster College Classic Bracket presented by Lew’s at Milford Lake in Junction City, Kan., this weekend, after undergoing emergency surgery to remove a brain abscess in late August.
Fothergill said he’s relieved he’ll be able to compete after what he described as the scariest moments of his life.
“When this all happened, my first thought was, oh, my gosh, I put all this work in and finally made it to the bracket and I’m not going to be able to fish it,” Fothergill said.

Kyoya Fujita secures Bassmaster Elite tournament win on New York’s Lake Champlain

The big bites mostly eluded Kyoya Fujita, but the Bassmaster Elite rookie’s diligence delivered the coveted blue trophy, as the Japanese superstar amassed the winning total of 86 pounds, 12 ounces in the Dakota Lithium Bassmaster Elite at Lake Champlain in New York.
“This feels great!” Fujita said. “My dream (has been) to win an Elite Series tournament. My dream came true.”

Rookie pro, Joey Cifuentes, completes Bassmaster victory on Michigan’s Lake St. Clair

A sure sign Joey Cifuentes III was in line to win his second blue trophy came when a 5-pound smallmouth jumped into his boat midway through Championship Sunday, July 30, at the AFTCO Bassmaster Elite at Lake St. Clair.
That bass helped “the Cowboy” claim his second victory of his rookie season on the Elite Series with a four-day total of 91 pounds, 8 ounces, outlasting Oklahoma’s Luke Palmer by 1 pound, 2 ounces.
