New York’s 2026-27 hunting and trapping licenses now on sale

Hunting and trapping licenses are valid from Sept. 1 through Aug. 31 each year, while annual fishing licenses are valid for 365 days from date of purchase. 

After a few days of making sure things were running smoothly, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation officially announced on Aug. 6 that hunting and trapping licenses and Deer Management Permits (DMPs) for the 2026-27 season were on sale.
As early as Aug. 3, however, hunters were reporting that they had purchased their licenses and had also applied for Deer Management Permits shortly after seeing the agency’s 2026-27 DMP chart posted online.
