Bass anglers assist after plane crash on Minnesota’s Inguadona Lake

As Ramsey resident Vern Wagner and New Brighton resident Jeffrey Nelson were spending the afternoon of Tuesday, Oct. 8 casting lines on Minnesota’s Inguadona Lake, they weren’t expecting to see a plane crash into the lake.
“We saw this huge splash – water went like 30 feet into the air. And we reeled up and roared down to the end of the lake,” Wagner said.
Inguadona is a 1,133-acre water body located just east of Longville in Cass County.

What will dry conditions mean for Minnesota pheasant hunters on Saturday’s opener?

At 9 a.m. on Saturday, thousands of blaze-orange-clad hunters will hit the state’s grasslands and other birdy habitat across Minnesota in hopes of flushing a rooster pheasant within shotgun range.
Those hunters will affirm the tradition-rich “opener” that in many locales celebrates bird hunting, dogs, small-town living, and the outdoors in general. “Welcome Hunters” signs will adorn cafes, watering holes, and other establishments across prairie country. Many of the state’s Pheasant Forever chapters – 73 and counting – will usher in the new season in various celebratory ways.

‘Prevailing wage’ law to affect conservation work in Minnesota

After “prevailing wage” law changes took effect Aug. 1, 2024, outdoors organizations and the Minnesota DNR, both which sometimes oversee state-funded conservation projects, still wondered how the law would affect workers’ wages – and project budgets.
In short, the law’s change more explicitly outlines “public works projects,” as “improvement or restoration of … land intended for use by the public for the public benefit.” The change likely will affect organizations that receive funding from the Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council, or the state in general, because many of those projects aim to improve land for public benefit or use.

The National Park Service reported Sunday that a law enforcement park ranger at Voyageurs National Park died that day while responding to a call for assistance on Namakan Lake in northern Minnesota’s St. Louis County.
On Monday, the NPS identified the fallen ranger as Kevin Grossheim, 55, of Kabetogama. He was described as “a dedicated law enforcement officer, emergency services volunteer, member of the community, and beloved husband and friend,” in a VNP press release.

Both these Pocono twin creeks shine in the fall for Pennsylvania trout fishing

You gotta love two trout streams that are so similar in character and so close in proximity there’s no problem fishing both during the same day.
These twins are in Monroe and Pike counties, Pa., and both receive fall stockings, making them prime targets for autumn trout. As the leaves color up, the cooler conditions won’t cause you to work up a sweat. Best of all, the trout are aggressive with lower water temperatures. This a good time to visit, especially a few days after a good soaking rain.
