Forward-facing sonar is starting to get a bit of pushback from anglers other than the many of us who are envious of those who can afford it.

A female Asian elephant at the St. Louis Zoo died shortly after her herd became agitated from a small dog running loose, zoo officials said.
Rani (pronounced Rahn-ee) died Friday at age 27. The zoo announced her death on Tuesday.
“We are absolutely devastated. We ask for the community’s thoughts and support during this difficult time,” zoo Director Michael Macek said in a news release. “Our team of professional animal care experts did everything possible, but we couldn’t save Rani.”
An east-central Iowa lake will see dramatic change, including restoration work and habitat improvements, following action taken last Thursday by the Iowa Natural Resources Commission.
A contract was approved with Three Oaks Construction of North Sioux City, S.D., to construct watershed and in-lake improvements at Hickory Hills Park (Casey Lake) in Tama County, a 39-acre lake located within the 723-acre park.

Pheasant hunters busting open their wallets gave rural Minnesota an economic bump last weekend, and a new report again illustrates just how much casters and blasters contribute to American gross domestic product.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service last week released its 2022 National Survey of Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation, a survey that says hunting and fishing contributed $145 billion to the U.S. economy. Wildlife watching contributed another $250 billion. In human terms, 39 million people (15% of the U.S. population 16 years and older) participated in recreational fishing, and 14 million people (5.5% of U.S. 16 years and older) participated in hunting.

Bowhunters who find consistent success learn something valuable from every big buck they encounter. A hunter can take some solace in that, but it doesn’t make it much easier to stomach in the moment when one of those close calls ends without a shot opportunity.
