Pippitts bringing their popular training advice for both dogs and owners to Minnesota’s Game Fair

Being a professional dog trainer requires a high level of patience, planning, and persistence with whatever breed that’s being worked. But it’s more than just working with dogs.
Because dogs will be going back to their owners, quality dog trainers also make sure to educate those owners, so the time and work invested in the dog training sticks. Working with people – the owners – also requires a high level of patience, planning, and persistence.

Minnesota’s forests are defenders of changes in climate

Minnesota’s nearly 18 million acres of forest provide habitat for critters, clean water and air, recreational opportunities, and a steady flow of wood products. They also absorb and store heat-trapping gases that are making our winters warmer and rainfalls stronger.
When forests grow, they absorb carbon dioxide – the main heat-trapping gas released by tailpipes and smokestacks. They store it as carbon in leaves, branches, trunks, roots, soils, and wood products.

A quick chat with Kevin Irons, long-time enemy of invasive carp

Kevin Irons’ introduction to invasive carp came in a peculiar but fitting way. In the 1990s, when Irons worked as a large river ecologist for the Illinois Natural History Survey, an angler carried a curious-looking bighead carp into Irons’ office at the Illinois River Biological Station. The bearer of the fish had a simple question that went something like, “What the heck is this?”
Irons knew the answer. And he knew the battle was beginning.

House measure would undo protections for prairie chickens, bats

Congress has approved two measures to undo federal protections for the lesser prairie chicken and northern long-eared bat – two endangered animals that have seen their populations plummet over the years.
The legislative actions, backed mostly by Republicans, represent rare congressional involvement in matters usually left to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Marine Fisheries Service.

Three spinner-rig methods you can rely on for walleyes in August

Fishing is downright tough right now. The bite has slowed immensely, and they’re few and far between. We anglers have for decades relied on spinner rigs to trigger walleyes to get a reaction bite, and that’s where we’re at in early August.
Here are three spinner-rig methods I rely on at this time of the season. Among the three, usually one trumps the others.
