Do brown trout have any self respect?

I’m a boat fisherman when it comes to fishing the Great Lakes.
Tom, a friend of mine, prefers fishing from the shore or on one of the piers to catch his share of salmon and trout. We decided to trade trips one weekend. I’d take him fishing on the boat on Saturday; on Sunday, I’d walk out on the pier with him and we’d fish the same general area with solid footing.

Lake Michigan brown trout are heading north

Before there were salmon in the Great Lakes, there were brown trout.
Before Dr. Howard Tanner took the reins of the Michigan Fisheries Department with the mandate, “Do something spectacular,” Michigan’s fish biologists had tried to do spectacular things in the Great Lakes by stocking them with both steelhead and brown trout. The results were mixed, but certainly not up to “spectacular” standards.

Tying the proper knot will get more fish in the boat

I take a lot of people out on my boat and I like them to participate as much as possible. They can choose lures from my tackle collection, I’ll coach them about how to use the ’riggers, divers, planers, or other gear, and I let them deploy their own lines and lures, even if it takes longer.
If I think they can handle netting the fish, unhooking the lure, or steering the boat, I say, “Go for it!” It’s the difference for them between going fishing and being taken fishing.
The exception is when it’s time to tie a knot. I trust my knots – I won’t automatically trust yours.

Here’s what to look for in sunglasses for fishing

The only constant between all the sunglasses I own is each have lenses that block nearly all UV radiation. How do I know? I look for a label that either shows the lenses are “UV 400” or have 100% protection against UVA and UVB rays.
After that, functionality comes next and that’s almost a trial-and-error process to individualize. Here are some of the options to explore.

Cold weather duty for summer shirts

Being able to figure out unusual jobs for any item can save time, save money, or can just be a good hack.
One of the clothing hacks I’ve been doing for the last couple of years is putting my summer, performance fabric shirts to work all year ’round, for late season hunts, mid-season ice fishing, cold spring mornings and other times long before summer sun is an issue.

What will be the unintended consequences of widespread wind energy?

Recently the government’s top climate specialist, compared the dozens of whales washing ashore along the New Jersey and New York coasts in recent months to road killed raccoons and possums along America’s highways.
He seems to think that just as road-killed animals are just a minor, unintended consequence of the transportation system, people should be just as callous when dead whales happen to drift ashore along the East Coast where wind-energy projects are installed, are being installed, and more are being planned.

Boating industry finding ways to adapt after pandemic sales soar

Things have changed since boat sales soared during the pandemic and only time will tell what will happen in the boating industry. The lockdowns are over, employment is high, and so is the price of gasoline. Fuel prices are double what they were during the onset of the pandemic. Don’t forget increasing inflation rates. So what’s the current outlook for the boating industry across the United States, including Michigan?

De-extincting the Great Lakes blue pike may be worth looking at

Blue pike were most abundant in Lake Erie but they could be caught in Lake Huron and Lake Ontario as well and occasionally in the Niagara, Detroit, and St. Clair rivers. Blue pike closely were related to walleyes.
Historically, some scientists argued they were the same species as
walleyes (just a blue color), others argued they were a distinct species.
