Grueling lake effect storms take a toll on structures in parts of New York

There have been plenty of remarks about a lack of snow in recent years in places like New York. Well, it appears that most of those people have been pretty quiet about it lately.
One of the things associated with cold weather and snow has been the threat to roofs collapsing or leaking. Even those places where the weather has been relatively mild have had to deal with this problem. Starting with places like central New York, which hasn’t had to deal with much, they have been cautious. Then you contrast the snow belt areas where in eight days they received 10 feet of snow and you can see that there is a problem.

Camping with Leo Maloney: New York’s Cayuga Lake State Park

Picture gently rolling hills covered with vineyards. A deep blue lake with fishing boats trolling. These bring back memories of camping in the “grape lakes.”
Cayuga Lake State Park has nearly 300 sites, both tent and trailer, nicely spaced. It has become a favorite campground for several reasons, including nicely spaced sites at the northwest corner of Cayuga Lake, only three miles from Seneca Falls.

Camping attractions are many at New York’s Grass Point State Park

Visualize sitting around a campfire on the river bank, watching a golden sunset as fishing boats scurry for their docks and individual fishermen cast in the lengthening shadows from dockside. In the fading light a “saltie” or laker moves along the seaway channel, its deck lit up reminiscent of a Christmas tree.
The image is only part of the attraction of camping at New York’s Grass Point State Park on the St. Lawrence River.
