The 2026 Minnesota Sportsmen’s Show is set for Jan. 16-18 at Canterbury Park in Shakopee. The show – a resort, lodge, and products show – offers people the chance to explore resort and outfitter options, see the latest in fishing gear and electronics, and take in a seminar from Joe Henry or Ted Takasaki.

Streams of Thought: What do you think of Minnesota’s party-hunting law for deer?

More than once, as I recently worked my way from one holiday gathering to another, to visit friends and family and to eat food prepared not by me, the subject of party hunting during Minnesota’s deer seasons arose.
Honestly, I haven’t in the past given much thought to party hunting. Apparently, however, it’s a bit of a sore spot with some hunters.

Search ends for mountain lions after hiker fatally attacked on Colorado trail

The search for mountain lions along a remote trail in Colorado where a solo hiker was fatally attacked ended Monday after authorities killed two of the predators — including one with human DNA on its paws — but could not find a third.
The victim of the New Year’s Day attack was identified as a 46-year-old woman from Fort Collins, about an hour’s drive from the attack site on the Crosier Mountain trail, east of Rocky Mountain National Park.

Minnesota hunter takes massive Roosevelt’s elk that could be an Alaskan record

A day after traveling from Minnesota to Afognak Island in Alaska for the opening day of hunting for Roosevelt’s elk on the island, Chase Parker, of Barnum, took down a 6-by-6 elk.
And it wasn’t just any elk. The animal’s rack scored 313-5⁄8 inches, making it a contender for the Boone & Crockett Club’s highest-scoring Roosevelt’s elk from Alaska. Official Boone & Crockett measurer Carey Ferrell said that once B&C accepts the measurement, Parker’s elk will unseat the previous Alaskan Roosevelt’s record-breaker of 291-5⁄8, set in 2016.

Dan Ladd: Looking back on a deer season of milestones

Like many hunters, at the time of this writing I’m spending the final days of 2025 reflecting on another deer season. Even though this one is still going on courtesy of the late (later) muzzleloading season in New York’s Southern Zone known as the Holiday Week Hunt, which I do intend to partake in at some point.
When gathering with friends and relatives during the Christmas holiday the expected question, “how was your deer season?” once again popped up on several occasions.
