Public land solar farm plan stalled in Michigan

A controversial proposal that the Michigan Department of Natural Resources was considering to lease some 400 acres of forest land in Otsego County for the development of a solar farm has been stalled, but it isn’t necessarily dead.
The proposal, which would have placed a solar farm near another bigger proposed project on private land, was submitted by RWE Clean Energy.

Commentary: Edward S. Thomas, an Ohio naturalist who left a strong legacy

I consider myself a naturalist. Naturalists are folks who look at nature, interpret what they see, and are able to pass on their knowledge to others about the natural world.
As an outdoors person, educator, and park ranger for many years, I am always seeking more knowledge, and appreciate people who are exemplary in their field. In recent years, I was reintroduced to a real expert in the realm of studying and interpreting nature to the greater enrichment of people young and old. The individual’s name is Edward Sinclair Thomas.

Project F.I.S.H. casts large net to reach young Michigan anglers

Outdoor educators aren’t born; they’re made. Scaling up to teach the thousands of young people yearning to learn more about fishing and being good stewards of the environment requires the development of an army of knowledgeable volunteers.
Creating such an army of outdoor educators is the primary goal of Project F.I.S.H. (Friends Involved in Sportfishing Heritage). Think of Project F.I.S.H. as a bootcamp for outdoor educators – a place where front line educators of future fisheries stewards develop and hone their skills.

Another ice-fishing season is in limbo for Ohio anglers

With air temperatures reaching more than 50 degrees during the end of December, prospects for Ohio anglers who like to ice fish are once again looking uncertain.
While early ice is clearly off the table, there is still plenty of time for local bodies of water to freeze yet this winter and provide some later hard water action.
