Wild deer tests positive for CWD in Michigan’s Mecosta County for the first time

Mecosta is now the 14th Michigan county where chronic wasting disease has been identified in the wild deer population, according to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. An adult buck harvested in Millbrook Township recently tested positive for the disease.
The CWD finding was confirmed by the Michigan State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, which works with the DNR to identify CWD in Michigan’s wild deer herd.

Ultimately, after years of service, mine developed a leak and I wasn’t happy. I’m not the type to put things off, so they had to be replaced before spring turkey season began. Now was the time to do it.

Steve Carney: Catching a thief, and some tasty fish soup

I was astonished when I filleted a 16-inch walleye and out poured nine minnow heads, which the fish had managed to pluck from my jigging spoon.
I finally caught the walleye on the 10th try. I think this thievery was going on most of the morning, because the hit was always soft, but eventually I won. Somehow, some way, the walleye had a special ability to steal bait.
