Wisconsin NRB attaches 28 acres to Ice Age Trail in Waupaca County

The Wisconsin Natural Resources Board (NRB) approved the purchase of 28 acres for the Ice Age Trail in Waupaca County at its Dec. 11 meeting for $175,000.
The land had been of interest to the DNR earlier, but was purchased by the Ice Age Trail Alliance (IATA) for $175,000 to ensure it would be available for the hiking trail when the landowner wanted to sell.

New York’s winter sport show season about to begin

The 2025 sports show season is poised to begin soon, with shows getting under way in January and continuing throughout the year. The winter and early spring periods, however, remain the busiest with many large shows scheduled between now and the end of March.
Sport shows provide the opportunity for sportsmen to gather, check out the latest gear or even book a future trip to another state or country. There’s often plenty of  seminars offered by national and regional outdoor celebrities.

Dean Bortz: 2,347 miles, a blown tire, and one white-tailed buck

Just about every fall since probably 2010 or 2011 I’ve been able to hunt deer, elk, or pronghorn in South Dakota (deer and pronghorn), Wyoming (deer), and Montana (deer and elk). I did hunt the third rifle season for deer and elk in Colorado in 2005 and 2007 without much success, then shifted to the other three states once thoughts turned to western hunting again.
This past fall I again drew Montana’s nonresident big-game combo tag that offers deer and elk hunting, along with a small game license and annual fishing license.

Dan Ladd: New York legislature should move on crossbows in 2025

The 2025 legislative session is coming and after years of discussion, New York lawmakers should consider the hunting community, the Department of Environmental Conservation and even the white-tailed deer herd this year and pass crossbow legislation that is on par with other states, and in line with a growing interest in crossbows and modern technology.
The bottom line is that the current regulations implemented in 2014 are vastly out of date, if not archaic, and the issues that are surfacing today are the result of the decisions made back then.
