New executive director of PA Trout Unlimited focused on habitat

Eric Null was fly-fishing with a friend on the Casselman River in Maryland 25 years ago when he happened upon a group of guys picking litter from the banks.
“When they told us what they were doing, we said, ‘Hey, we’ll join you. We fish here all the time,’” Null, 44, of Uniontown, Pa., recalled. “Turns out they were from Trout Unlimited.”
Learning about the group’s stream rehab projects and float stockings intrigued Null, since it fit with his passion for fly-fishing.

Three ways to (sort of) beat a buck’s nose

Scent control has been a hot topic in deer hunting for a long, long time. In fact, it was probably a real concern even as far back as when we were wearing animal hides and hucking spears at critters.
Modern deer hunters obsess over this aspect as well, but it’s still up for debate whether you can actually beat a buck’s nose. Plenty of hunters think that you really can’t, and that if a deer gets downwind, it’s pretty much game over. But downwind at 15 yards is different from downwind at 50.

Third time winning federal duck stamp contest just as sweet for wildlife artist Adam Grimm

Another federal duck stamp contest is in the books. After two days of judging, Adam Grimm, of South Dakota, emerged as the winner with a stunning acrylic painting of a pair of spectacled eiders, solidifying his position as one of the world’s leading wildlife artists.
This is the third time Grimm has won the prestigious art competition, one he has entered since 1997. Grimm and his family live in Wallace, South Dakota, a small town nestled in “prairie pothole country.”
