Public meeting start of “digging in” to learn more about Minnesota’s elk

With a research project involving Minnesota’s northwestern elk herds and the reintroduction of elk in the northeast looming, the Minnesota DNR last week hosted a public meeting about all things elk.
“This was just the first of many upcoming public meetings. … We’re going to be really digging in more to some of these issues we’re having, particularly with depredation issues and how to look for solutions,” said Kelsie LaSharr, the DNR elk coordinator.

Longtime fishing educator, Bob Jensen, steps back from full-time outdoors career

Outdoor communicator and educator Bob Jensen built a storied career in the outdoors over the course of more than 45 years on the water. Now Jensen is going to take a step back as he announced he is ending his full-time outdoor career.
“I won’t be writing articles on a regular basis anymore,” Jensen said. “If/when I find a topic that might be of interest, I will submit it. I don’t go fishing as much as I used to, and I’m running low on fresh ideas for fishing articles. I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to produce hundreds of television and radio shows, articles, and seminars about fishing.”

Mike Raykovicz: Keys to picking the right tree this bowhunting season

September is here and archery season will begin soon in New York.
Most bowhunters I know are already in the woods scouting for deer and for good places to put up their portable stands. It’s gratifying to know that hunters are becoming increasingly aware of the necessity of using a climbing harness when climbing trees, but safety goes beyond that. Tragic treestand accidents happen every season but their number is decreasing. Last year in New York there were only eight reported serious injuries involving treestands. Thankfully, none were fatal.
