Minnesota’s LCCMR approves more than 125 projects at $103 million

On July 31, the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources approved funding more than 125 projects related to the environment and natural resources to the tune of $103 million.
The amount of money available for LCCMR to allocate for 2025 projects across the state totaled around $100 million when it met to make final allocations at the end of July. That’s an increase from the originally assumed $90 million LCCMR was expected to receive from the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund – state lottery proceeds.

Mike Schoonveld: Should you balance your boat trailer tires?

If you are a boat trailer owner, you’ve probably already made up your mind about the question posed in the title of this essay. Some say yes, some say no. What do the experts say? Even they give mixed answers.
For the record, no tires – whether it’s on a boat trailer, a camper, go-cart or an 18-wheeler – have to be balanced to work. Put an unbalanced tire on a car, truck or trailer, tighten the lug nuts and hit the road. The wheel and tire will go around and around and around for a long time and without much issue. The question then becomes: “How long and at what expense.”

Streams of Thought: A well-deserved honor for Minnesota’s Sand Dunes Gobblers Chapter of NWTF

In the latest edition of Minnesota Outdoor News, you’ll find an excellent story written by an excellent writer about an excellent conservation group.
Again this year, it was my honor and privilege to make the call, this year to Nancy McLaughlin, of the Sand Dunes Gobblers Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, to inform Nancy and members/volunteers that they’d been selected for our annual Outdoor Leaders Award. I hereby offer the chapter my sincere congratulations. Well deserved!

Alabama dog trainer Jeremy Criscoe brings skills to Minnesota Game Fair

The Union Grove region of Alabama is adjacent to the famous Guntersville Lake reservoir, and it’s well known among largemouth bass tournament anglers around the world. But many people outside of Alabama are unaware that the lake also is a premier duck-hunting destination.
Jeremy Criscoe was born and raised in Union Grove and grew up waterfowling on that northern Alabama lake, created by a dam on the Tennessee River.
“The best time to waterfowl down here is in late December into January,” Criscoe says.

Minnesota Conservation Federation’s new board leadership welcomes fresh era

This summer, when Julia Schrenkler became the Minnesota Conservation Federation’s board of directors’ president, in a unanimous vote by her board-member peers, she felt honored by the experience.
“I am really grateful for a unanimous vote because that would be hard. I’m still so grateful,” Schrenkler said.
While being named president of the board is an exciting moment in her time with MNCF, what really impresses her is the direction, and invigoration that Brad Gausman, executive director, is bringing to the organization.
