Ohio Insider: Microplastics in the Great Lakes a concern

The Great Lakes span more than 500 miles from end to end and contain 84% of North America’s surface freshwater.
And according to a recent study from the University of Toronto, 90% of water samples taken from the lakes over the past decade are contaminated with tiny plastic particles known as microplastics. These small plastics, the University of Toronto study found, are at levels in the lakes where they could be harmful to wildlife.

A quick chat with Mark Kenyon of Wired to Hunt

Michigan’s Mark Kenyon isn’t offended if you call him a deer nerd or whitetail geek.
Although Kenyon self-describes as a “passionate deer hunter,” those other labels fit, too. He built his work and career around white-tailed deer, after all. Kenyon, 36, launched his “Wired To Hunt” digital-media platform in summer 2008 while a college intern in New York City. And although he spent each business day working for a Manhattan advertising agency, he labored most nights and weekends in his apartment, quietly building the foundation for his digital company.

Behind the scenes: Illinois DNR wildlife biologist Ross Albert has a diverse background of experience

As is the case with many working in wildlife conservation, Ross Albert credits his inspiration to his early experiences.
Albert fondly recalls memories of a childhood spent in nature chasing frogs, catching snakes, practicing with his bow, and building forts in the woods near his childhood home. Additionally, Albert reflects on time spent with his father and grandfather as they taught him to hunt and fish.

Interested in hunting snow geese? Here are options in New York and beyond

New York, while offering snow goose hunting opportunities, is certainly not a hot spot like the Central Flyway. Occasionally the big flocks will have to stop for a few days when the snow line and frozen water haven’t advanced as fast as they can fly.
For New York hunters, this translates into years skipped as they fly over this state to open water further north. However, when they do stop you can enjoy some fun shooting if you take a few simple steps to enjoy that opportunity.

Michigan’s bear populations are trending in the right direction, with signs the Upper Peninsula population is growing and numbers below the bridge are stabilizing, according to the Department of Natural Resources.
