What will your family and friends say when you’re gone? If you’re reading this, chances are you have sporting equipment and treasures around your home that are not only valuable, but to you, precious treasures. You can’t take them with you. Will you sell your stuff, leave stuff in your will, or leave a headache for your heirs? There comes a time, and there might be better way for you.
It sure looks to me that we will have some quality ice fishing shortly. I’ll be totally honest with you by saying that I don’t ice fish all that much, at least not as much as I ought to.
When I meet and question folks who do not ice fish, the answer I usually hear is that it is too cold. Northern Illinois? Too cold? I am shocked to hear that. Who’d have thunk it?

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost recently announced a proposed $110 million settlement with DuPont over chemical contamination spanning seven decades from the company’s Washington Works facility in Parkersburg, W.Va., just across the border from Washington County, Ohio.
“This settlement is a victory for all Ohioans, especially those living along the Ohio River near the Parkersburg plant,” said DeWine, who originated the lawsuit against DuPont while serving as Ohio’s attorney general in 2018.

It was the 1930s, and my grandfather’s two older brothers had taken their father on a pheasant hunt. Pheasants were still new to Minnesota at the time, and their father had yet to try to hunt them.
They didn’t have to walk far before they rousted a rooster. The old man lifted his double-barrel side by side, pulled back the hammers, fired, and dropped the rooster before it was more than a few feet off the ground.
“Boy, there’s not much challenge to shooting these,” he was said to have told his sons.
The boys would get the last laugh, however; for the rest of the hunt, the old man missed every bird he tried to shoot.

The recent blast of arctic air is growing ice on lakes and ponds across the northern two-thirds of Iowa. Anglers are ready to get out for the popular early ice fishing season. The DNR recommends a minimum of four inches of clear ice for fishing and at least five inches for snowmobiles and ATVs.
