Looking for a big-game hunt? Maine black bears is a good option

Dark? You think you know dark? Dark is when you are waiting for your guide to pick you up; listening to the late summer/early fall night sounds when suddenly bait pile logs get knocked ‘cattywhumpus’, well, ‘bearywhumpus’ is more like it, and you’re in a ground blind, not far enough away.
When the bear sounds like a really big bear? Now that, is dark!

Make sure your muzzleloader is ready before the season starts

It’s night sounds. Subtle changes in the weather bring about changes; amongst my favorites are the changing night sounds. Fall is about to be upon us, hunting seasons are coming. Time to get ready. Whatever you hunt, and however you hunt, half of the fun is prepping for the season.

Motivated? Oh my God!

Donated by Stompiesland Safaris, the hunt presented a unique opportunity for the three of us. An African hunt has been for years on Ira’s ‘Gotta Do’ list. Here was his chance. How could I say, no?

A long-time archer reflects on 70 years of flinging arrows

Of course I remember, it was red. It was red and even then I knew it was big medicine. Not only that, I was with my father. We’d go over to a neighbor’s house, easily done as the big backyards ran into one another, where bales of straw had been set up against the wall of a large barn.
Talk about special! My presence was not only tolerated but encouraged. We were shooting our bows, real bows! And I got to shoot with the grown-ups.
