Hard winter on wildlife demonstrates need for more habitat in North Dakota

The reality is where we live in North Dakota, winter is the driving season. It can, and has, lasted deep into April. Winter jumped out and snatched away fall like last year beginning in early November and hung around until April like a one-two punch for all.
By April, the Game and Fish Department had fielded nearly 250 depredation reports statewide for just white-tailed deer. More than 100 of those calls landed in the Jamestown office for deer alone.

Dash-mounted camera captures young bear bouncing off sheriff’s patrol vehicle in Northeast Ohio

It doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone how tough bears – even juvenile males – are, not even when they have a run-in with two-ton-plus Ford SUVs.
That is exactly what happened the evening of June 9 when a black bear came out of nowhere to clip the passenger-side front panel of a Geauga County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle in Ohio. The 18-second episode provided by the department was captured on the vehicle’s dash-mounted camera as the Ford was on routine patrol in Munson Township.

Aggressive treatment planned for Eurasian watermilfoil found in Iowa’s Lost Grove Lake

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will start treating Lost Grove Lake in Scott County at the end of June with the approved aquatic herbicide Sonar A.S. to eliminate Eurasian watermilfoil.
Sonar A.S. has successfully eradicated Eurasian watermilfoil from other lakes in Iowa by preventing the plant from producing a pigment needed for photosynthesis, starving the plant over several weeks. The herbicide has no restrictions for swimming, fishing, irrigation, or drinking water at the planned dose.
