New York teen bags big Missouri tom with seven beards

A Saratoga County teen has shaken up the turkey-hunting world this spring after bagging a seven-bearded tom while on a hunting trip with family and friends in Missouri.

Joey Berlin, of Clifton Park, had no idea what would be in store for he and his dad, Tim, while hunting the family’s leased property in the Midwest. But he would come out of the hunt with a gobbler that weighed 20 pounds, 10 ounces, had 1-inch spurs, and a total length of the beards that measured 53 3/16 inches.

Campbellsport’s Rick Heisler is Wisconsin’s hunter education instructor of year

Rick Heisler, of Campbellsport, was recognized twice this year for his longtime work as a hunter safety instructor.
In March, the DNR notified Heisler he was the recipient of the 2022 Wisconsin DNR Hunter Safety Instructor of the Year Award. On April 15, the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation (WWF) presented Heisler with its WWF Hunter Safety Instructor of the Year Award.

Is the popularity of game meat declining?

Arguably, one of the reasons that hunting is so deeply embedded in American culture is that, once upon a time, everyone ate wildlife and most people hunted as a matter of course. Writers from Mark Twain to Ernest Hemingway reported that hunted species were mainstays and highlights of American cuisine. But times change.
