Elephant’s lack of size is more than made up for by its fishing opportunities. With the exception of muskies, it seems to offer everything an angler could want in a lake.

There’s some seasonal action, mainly during the open-water season for panfish, bass, and walleyes, but virtually no winter pressure because its depth and wind-swept nature rarely allow good ice to form.

This 927-acre lake near Elysian is rich with submerged and emergent vegetation, which provides valuable fish habitat and plenty of cover to fish through.

If you’re looking for a lake in Crow Wing County that can be counted on to produce a meal of panfish, Lower Cullen just might be that lake.

Walleyes are numerous, but they’re not very big. It’s seems to have always been that way in Crescent, which continues to hold an abundant, naturally-reproduced walleye population.

It’s a long-term project aimed at helping DNR fisheries managers better understand the growth and movement of the river’s signature species.

But there’s more worth looking at than just its bluegills and crappies. Amelia also is a fine largemouth bass fishery, and the current status of its walleye population is about as robust as it’s ever

It’s a solid fishery, providing excellent panfish- and largemouth bass-fishing opportunities, and it kicks out enough walleyes to make it a viable option for them as well.

While crappies and northern pike are typically primary targets for anglers who frequent Borden, the lake also kicks out plenty of largemouth and smallmouth bass, produces some walleyes, and might even give up a rogue
