Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission releasing channel catfish across state, blues in Ohio River

A few readers recently contacted Pennsylvania Outdoors News concerned that the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission is stocking invasive flathead catfish into the Susquehanna River.
Mike Parker, communications director for the agency, dispelled the notion.
“We do not raise or stock flathead catfish. We never have,” he said.
But that doesn’t mean the agency hasn’t been busy stocking catfish – just not flatheads.

Hunter education, archery in schools may be safe in Pennsylvania despite threat to federal funding

A recent move by the Biden administration to block funding for hunter education and archery programs held in schools may not impact the programs in Pennsylvania, but officials are watching the situation closely. 
The federal funding in question is earmarked under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 for schools with hunting and archery programs. According to news reports, the Department of Education determined that, under the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act passed last year, school hunting and archery classes are precluded from receiving the federal funding.

Online license sales fee covers cost of mailing Pennsylvania’s hunting digest

The new electronic licensing system implemented by the Pennsylvania Game Commission this summer generated a lot of talk among hunters, and it also raised a few questions. 
Earlier this year, the commission board approved a change to the way licenses are sold – allowing hunters to purchase them from issuing agents or online. For those hunters who purchased their hunting licenses online, they were assessed a $4.40 fee and there were questions about the origination of the charge.

Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission board takes steps to protect wild brown trout

The Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission is taking a new approach to a dozen streams that are managed for both stocked and wild trout, and they hope the measure appeases anglers who fish for both. 
The 12 stream sections are designated as Class A wild brown trout streams that are also stocked with hatchery-raised rainbow trout. The agency doesn’t mind if the stocked trout are harvested, but they hope to spare the wild brown population without limiting angling opportunities.

Pennsylvania Game Commission ethics questioned on race car sponsorship

A state legislator is questioning the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s sponsorship of a Sprint Series race car driven by the agency’s marketing director’s daughter’s boyfriend, but the commission says the partnership checks all the right promotional boxes.
Matt Morrett, director of the Game Commission’s Bureau of Marketing and Strategic Communications, confirmed the agency is sponsoring a PA Sprint Series race team whose driver, Logan Spahr, is dating his daughter.

Old hunting club land a big addition to Delaware State Forest in northeast Pennsylvania

The property of a former hunting camp in Pike County has become a significant expansion to the Delaware State Forest.
The 555-acre parcel, located near Bushkill, Pa., was purchased by The Conservation Fund during an auction in July 2021 and is now under the ownership and management of the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. According to Kyle Shenk, northeast regional director with The Conservation Fund, the fact that the property was under the stewardship of a hunting club for generations brought many benefits.
