Four leaders headed for Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame

The Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame (WCHOF) will induct four individuals to join the 106 previous inductees that represent some of the best of the best among Wisconsin’s conservation ranks.
On April 25, Mike Dombeck, of Stevens Point, the late Byron Shaw, of Amherst Junction, and Mark Martin and Susan Foote-Martin, of Arlington, will be featured in virtual Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame induction ceremonies.

Wisconsin DNR’s Adam Payne gets his senate review

The Wisconsin Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Energy held its first meeting in taking up the possible confirmation of Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Secretary-Designee Adam Payne.
Payne can serve as DNR secretary designee until the full senate votes. Payne emphasized the importance of taking care of the land, and how his past work helps to prepare him for this job.

Bill Smith elected as Wisconsin Natural Resources Board’s next chairman

Dave Clausen, a Natural Resources Board (NRB) member from May 2006 to May 2013, describes new NRB Chairman Bill Smith with one word – integrity.
Smith, of Shell Lake, was elected NRB chair at the Jan. 25 meeting. He was appointed to the board by Gov. Tony Evers in May 2019, with his term ending May 2025. The NRB sets policy for the DNR and approves hunting, trapping, and fishing rules, and environmental standards.

Wisconsin’s 2022 deer harvest numbers presented to Natural Resources Board

Wisconsin’s 2022 deer harvest was up at least 8.8% from 2021, according to preliminary numbers released in mid-February by the Department of Natural Resources.
Jeff Pritzl, DNR deer program specialist, told the Natural Resources Board (NRB) at its
Jan. 25 meeting that last year was the third consecutive year without a bucks-only season in the northern forest counties.

Wisconsin Natural Resources Board reviews North American Wildlife Conservation Model

Anyone who hunts or traps represents an important component of the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation.
In fact, anyone who derives pleasure from wildlife has a stake in this long-standing model.
The Natural Resources Board (NRB) received a presentation on this model at its December meeting by John Organ, retired chief of the Massachusetts Fisheries and Wildlife Board.
