Trapping season changes appear to have minimal effect in Minnesota

After rolling out regulation changes for trapping bobcats, fishers, and otters this year, it’s been informative for the Minnesota DNR researchers behind the scenes to assess how the changes may have affected preliminary harvest.
As of Wednesday, April 30, DNR Wildlife Research Biologist John Erb said the preliminary harvest numbers he received totaled around 979 bobcats, 650 fishers, and 651 pine marten. Fishers are seeing the highest increase in harvest with a jump of about 18% over last year’s total.
