Michigan hunters on deer scouting excursions are considered the most likely to spot a wild turkey hen leading a line of poults across a field or forest edge this summer.
But that doesn’t mean the DNR isn’t counting on fishermen, hikers, and others to contribute to what has become a big part of the agency’s turkey program. The annual Wild Turkey Brood Survey is in progress and runs through Aug. 31, giving residents an opportunity to contribute to wildlife research while helping biologists monitor Michigan’s turkey population.
