Jeffrey Frischkorn: Local rod, gun clubs are a time-honored tradition

Members of Ohio’s conservation/sportsmen/rod and gun clubs are often viewed by politicians and pro-fish and wildlife management groups as shock troops. Yet, such a view blurs the bottom line for belonging to a club.

Illinois River invasive carp battle bit by politics, but vital funding released

Amid threats to push Illinois out of the project, federal funding has been released to build part of a barrier system to keep invasive carp from reaching Lake Michigan from the Illinois River.

Illinois youth turkey hunters shatter another harvest record

Again led by southern Illinois counties, youth turkey hunters kicked off the spring season by setting yet another harvest record.
DNR reported that a total of 2,318 birds were taken over two weekends, easily topping the then-record 2,099 last spring. It was the third consecutive year of record-setting harvests for the season.
