Continuous bass season in Minnesota could begin on March 1

The Minnesota DNR will accept public comment on its proposed continuous bass season rules until 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23.
The proposed change would create a catch-and-release smallmouth and largemouth bass season to cover any part of the year that is not already deemed as a catch-and-release or harvest season. Shannon Fisher, DNR fisheries populations and regulations manager, said the agency chose to expedite the process because the agency has been discussing the implementation for over a year and believes there’s vast support for the change.

New addition provides access to west side of Iowa’s Ventura Marsh

A new 70-acre addition to Ventura Marsh’s southwest corner will provide access to the west side of the popular wildlife area and filter runoff from 200 acres of land before entering the popular marsh.
The addition was a donation facilitated by the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation who worked with private citizens to purchase the property and secure funding for the habitat development projects.

Evergreen Lake’s saugeye continue to show growth in McLean County, Ill.

Regular anglers at Evergreen Lake are convinced the central Illinois body of water holds a new state record saugeye. The fact that the standing state record of 9.68 pounds was set in Evergreen 24 years ago lends to the notion it is destined for an updated title.
The largest saugeye ever collected by DNR weighed 10.6 pounds.

Illinois DNR accepts bids for agriculture leases

The Illinois DNR will accept sealed bids this fall for about 20 agricultural lease contracts for crop years 2026-2030.
DNR utilizes agricultural leases as a tool to support wildlife populations and recreational opportunities at sites owned or managed by the agency. The leases developed under this program will promote ecologically sound agricultural practices to improve soil health, minimize soil erosion, improve water quality, and reduce chemical impacts to benefit wildlife populations and their habitats.
