Back in 2004, I took a 12-year-old kid on New York State’s first ever youth turkey hunt on a bitterly cold morning in the Adirondacks, with a temp that bottomed out at 18 degrees.
Still, we hunted. And after calling in a fisher on our first setup, we eventually located a pair of jakes that cooperated, and Jake Hooper had his first bird, in his excitement leaving his hunting license in the woods and not telling me about it until a week later.
