Jeff Frischkorn: A day the waves weren’t too ornery on Ohio waters of Lake Erie

The winds and the currents were ornery and contrary, nothing unusual for Lake Erie.
Didn’t help matters for long-time fishing friend Bob Ashley of Mentor, Ohio. Bob fishes out of the Mentor Lagoons practically every day the winds and currents don’t become too ornery and contrary. Today they were and they weren’t, a tad conflicted, if you will.

Mike Raykovicz: Quality rain gear pays big dividends during New York’s wet May turkey season

I don’t know how it was in your neck of the woods this past May, but here in New York’s Southern Tier there were relatively few dry days. It was rain or intermittent showers almost daily. If it wasn’t for my rain gear and DWR coated outer clothing I might not have been in the woods hunting turkeys.
I have a set of high-quality rain gear, both jacket and pants, that keep me completely dry. When wet weather is likely, I wear them both in the fall and spring. The jacket and pants are crafted with a waterproof, breathable membrane which provides the ultimate in waterproof protection.

Deer kill reduced in 2025 without southeast Minnesota culling

In the ongoing effort to thwart the spread of chronic wasting disease in the state, Minnesota DNR-contracted federal sharpshooters “culled” 201 white-tailed deer in three locations this past winter, with one testing positive – that one in the Grand Rapids area.
Patrick Hagen, Minnesota DNR disease response coordinator, said “targeted culling” is a widely used management practice designed to slow the spread of CWD where it is known to exist.
