Pennsylvania commission awards 16 grants to boating facilities

The  Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission, during the agency’s recent quarterly meeting, awarded several grants through its Boating Facility Grant Program.
Funds for this program are derived primarily from boat registration fees, state motorboat fuels tax and restricted revenue accounts, if applicable. In certain instances, federal aid is also used, if appropriate.

Walnut Creek Marina in Erie County, Pa., undergoing repairs

With the busy spring boating season underway, the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission is alerting boaters and other visitors to Walnut Creek Marina, Erie County, that several maintenance projects remain underway at the facility.
While sand-removal operations and dredging within the marina basin have been completed, additional dredging will continue within the marina channel over the next two weeks.

House passes bill to add to Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission boat advisory board

The Pennsylvania House voted unanimously May 7 to pass legislation intended to modernize the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission and improve its efficiency by streamlining its boating advisory efforts.
The commission is an independent board of commissioners comprised of 10 members appointed by the governor and approved by the Legislature. The Boating Advisory Board advises and makes recommendations to the board of commissioners.

Michigan NRC adjusting deer regulations that impact antlerless harvest, specialty hunts

Michigan bowhunters have gained antlerless deer harvest opportunity in the Upper Peninsula, and Liberty and Independence hunt participants can again target bucks.
Those two changes were approved earlier this month by the state Natural Resources Commission during its meeting at Lansing Community College. The Commission voted 4-1 (two commissioners missed the meeting) to open the entire U.P. to antlerless harvest by archers with a combo or regular deer license. Commissioner Dave Anthony cast the only vote in opposition.

Justin Ulberg named Michigan’s Wildlife Officer of the Year

Michigan Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Justin Ulberg has been named the 2024 Shikar Safari Michigan Wildlife Officer of the Year.
The annual award, presented to Ulberg at a recent meeting of the Michigan Natural Resources Commission in Lansing, is the highest state honor for conservation officers who demonstrate exceptional dedication to natural resources protection, law enforcement and community engagement.
