Five rules for staying safe during cold-water wading

If you’re considering taking part in some of the best stream fishing of the year, then you’re going to want to pay attention to all of the safety details that come with it.
Many anglers don’t put away their fishing gear just because the water has gotten cold, but while dressing warmer and paying more attention to the conditions can go a long way towards salvaging an otherwise cold fishing season, staying safe in the water once the temperatures drop requires a little bit of extra preparation.

Want to take the plunge into buying land for deer hunting? Here’s three things to know

With the deer season in the rearview mirror, it’s easy to reflect on what went right and what went wrong last year. Maybe you had a great year, or maybe your usual spots were overrun by other hunters.

Steve Piatt: An unexpected big buck for a hunter who doesn’t harvest big bucks

My deer-hunting history is one of forkhorns, 3-pointers and, after Pennsylvania implemented antler restrictions, a few basket-racked sixes and sevens, as well as antlerless whitetails and seasons with unfilled tags. I simply don’t harvest big bucks, and while I jokingly state that I only visit the taxidermist about once every 30 years, I did a little research and the math showed it’s actually 31 – for my first buck, a fine, symmetrical eight-point, and my biggest, a 136-inch 10-pointer.
