The Illinois Trappers Association will hold its annual fur sale Feb. 15 at Krile Auction House, 101 Walnut St. in Strasburg. Doors will open at 7 a.m. and the sale will begin about 9 a.m.
As an additional motivation for trappers to bring their fur to the ITA auction, all sellers will receive an entry into a raffle for six NO-BS Canine Extreme Junior coil-spring traps (over a $130 value).

While many think only of a warm fire and hot toddy during the dark cold months of winter, I think of big white birds. Trumpeter and tundra swans, pelicans and of course snow geese. Big white birds, and lots of them!
Perhaps one of my favorite places in winter is across the river at the Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary in West Alton. Riverlands is just a quick trip across the Lewis and Clark Bridge from historic Alton, Ill.
Lake Winnebago system lake sturgeon and walleye enthusiasts interested in learning more about both species may attend an in-person and virtual session entitled The Winnebago System: History And Status of Lake Sturgeon And Walleye Management on Jan. 22 from 6-8 p.m.
