The lone adult suspect in a three-county poaching case in southeast Wisconsin appeared in Washington County Circuit Court Monday, Dec. 30, with her attorney, David Nelson.

Perch resurgence on Green Bay? Anglers seeing best catches in years

Outside of some decent catches of “jumbos” from shore and small boats around the Wisconsin-Illinois border, Lake Michigan’s yellow perch fishery has declined significantly from its peak that came more than a half-century ago.
Catches from the big lake were still fair to good in spots during the 1980s, but the decline coincided with the arrival and spread of zebra and quagga mussels. It’s a different story on Green Bay’s shallower, more nutrient-rich water, with yellow perch providing plenty of fishing action and meals all year, except during a two-month spawning closure.

Wisconsin DNR study shows reducing bag limits was ‘huge success’ in goal to grow bigger panfish

A new study of experimental panfishing regulations found that reducing bag limits could improve panfish sizes.
The Wisconsin DNR began a study of experimental panfish regulations on 94 lakes in 2016 to see if that would increase size structure by one-half inch. Alex Latzka, DNR fish biologist and panfish team co-leader, provided a report to the Natural Resource Board Dec. 11, saying, “overall it was a huge success.”

Bobcat management plan finalized by New York DEC

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has released a final 2024-2033 Management Plan for bobcat in New York State. The plan provides a comprehensive review and update of the status of New York bobcats since the previous management plan was released.

Here’s how to plan a turkey hunt on western tribal lands in the U.S.

To a great extent, my hunting life has revolved around planning a spring turkey season that keeps me in the woods from late March through Memorial Day. To do that requires creativity and lots of road time.
One of my favorite turkey road trips is a meandering loop west from my home base in Minnesota, hunting a combination of American Indian reservation lands and at least one of what they call Prairie Units in South Dakota.

Minnesota hunting trio with Capable Partners organization hits it big with 2024 bucks

It appeared as a bobbing, black dot on the horizon, hundreds of yards away. Jason Sorenson, who was perched in a treestand, got the attention of his friend, Evan Newton, in a blind below and directed his gaze toward the movement.
Newton almost didn’t believe his eyes as the “dot” began to take shape, becoming a buck that was coming toward him, albeit somewhat in the wrong direction. Newton, sitting in the blind, had to rotate his power chair about 90 degrees and reposition his aim with his crossbow to point the bolt to where he wanted it to go.
