Swans run down in Minnesota’s Wright County, DNR asking for information from the public

The Minnesota DNR’s Law Enforcement Division is seeking information regarding who may have purposely used a vehicle to run down and kill five trumpeter swans – two adults and three juveniles – along Clementa Ave. NW, just south of County Road 39, in Wright County.

Minnesota’s 2024 bear hunt offers more promising outlook than last year

As the bear-hunting season arrives Sunday, Sept. 1, bear guides and a DNR biologist suspect it’ll be an average but favorable year, especially compared with last year’s season.
The suspected outcome was reiterated after bear baiting began Friday, Aug. 16, which offered the state’s bear-hunting guides insight into what the upcoming season could look like.
“There’s no shortage of bears up here. … Some baits are getting hit really well, some they’re not eating everything, they’re just kind of cherry-picking the best stuff out, and we’ve got a few that haven’t been touched yet,” said bear guide Jim Wallner, of Grand Marais.

Sunday ushers in a new season in Minnesota as dove, goose hunting begin

It’s here.
The state’s early bird-hunting seasons open Sunday (Sept. 1), with Minnesota’s teal, Canada goose, and mourning dove hunters poised to hit the field. It’s the earliest the seasons can open based on federal frameworks outlined by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
The good news: The weather should be fantastic on the opener, with sunny skies and daytime highs reaching the low 70s, with mornings in the mid-50s across much of the state.

Volunteers improve remote Wildlife Management Area on Minnesota’s Lake Vermilion

More than 50 volunteers tackled a border country landscape last Saturday in the name of improving access to state public lands. The project unfolded on the 42.16-acre Pine Island Wildlife Management Area, which exists on an island in the eastern portion of Lake Vermilion in St. Louis County.
Coordinating with the Minnesota DNR’s Tower-area office, Minnesota-based Sportsmen For the Boundary Waters has adopted the WMA for the next two years.
