Ben Moyer: Replacing golf course with visitor center at Michaux State Forest a timely, sound decision

The Michaux State Forest in Pennsylvania is a different kind of place. Named for French botanists Andre and Francois Michaux, who cataloged American flora in the 1790s, it’s an island of highland forest.
Lapping at the island shore is a sea of intensely cropped farmland, swelling town centers, and advancing commercial sprawl. Less than three hours away are the metro swaths of Baltimore, Washington, and Philadelphia. The Michaux is a sylvan haven in high demand.

Commentary: Ban on baiting has not reduced Bovine TB prevalence rate in Michigan

Michigan’s ban on deer baiting that has been in effect in the Lower Peninsula since 2019 and in deer management unit 452, in the northeast LP, since 2002 has not reduced the prevalence rate of bovine tuberculosis among whitetails in DMU 452.
That finding is based on a presentation by DNR Wildlife Health Section Supervisor Mitch Marcus and DNR Wildlife Health Specialist Emily Sewell at a recent Natural Resources Commission meeting.

The event, a staple at the century-old National Matches since 1981, was facilitated by the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) and saw a total of 414 competitors on the historic ranges of Camp Perry in Ohio. Bickar fired an overall score of 384-17X over the day – just one point above the second and third place finishers.
