Commentary: Politicians wrong – Pennsylvania needs more game lands, not less

So, if you believe the Game Commission should be buying more game lands, you should contact the offices of Sen. Scott Hutchinson and Sen. Cris Dush – who have advocated buying no more game lands – and tell them as a hunter and conservationist you want more game lands – not less.

Curious about single-bevel broadheads? Some thoughts after four years of hunting with them

I was a couple of hours into my first sit of the 2020 archery deer season when I noticed movement down a ridge near the creek crossing.

A big-bodied 9-pointer stopped to scan the area when he was to my left at nearly eye level. The buck lowered his head to continue down the trail before I had to stop him in order to get a shot. He was a little over 15 yards away, and slightly quartered toward me. I had always passed up this type of shot over the years, but I’d made a switch to my arrow setup before the 2020 deer season.

ATV, UTV or XTV for outdoor enthusiasts: What off-road vehicle is right for you?

Hunters, anglers and others who have a passion to explore the outdoors – along with farmers, loggers, construction workers, and government agencies – have purchased thousands of off-road vehicles during the past four decades.

During my past 30 years, I’ve had long-term experiences with an ATV and two UTVs, and have enjoyed some quality time with an XTV. What began with the launch of Tricart – the first year-round motorized tricycle that could navigate difficult terrain – in the late 1960s, has led global power sports manufacturers to create today’s thriving multi-billion dollar industry.

Where do Illinois’ rainbow trout come from? Fall, spring seasons rely on state’s hatchery system

Although many Illinois anglers can tell you stories about catching rainbow trout over the decades, the fish is not native here and there are no naturally reproducing populations in these water bodies.
The first rainbow trout stocking in Illinois occurred before the 20th century, and that tradition lives on today, thanks to work done in hatcheries like the Jake Wolf Memorial Fish Hatchery in Illinois.

Local and national waterfowl numbers paint a positive outlook for Michigan hunters

With an increase in waterfowl numbers at both the state and national levels, and favorable wetlands conditions across the state and nation, Michigan’s duck and goose hunters can expect a good hunt when the season kicks off next month.
Nationally, duck numbers increased slightly from last year while the local population saw solid increases over 2023’s record low numbers.
“Michigan spring breeding duck estimates were way up, including mallards,” DNR Waterfowl Specialist Barb Avers told Michigan Outdoor News. “Our banding activities over the past two months have matched that – we are seeing a lot of ducks.”
