Local and national waterfowl numbers paint a positive outlook for Michigan hunters

With an increase in waterfowl numbers at both the state and national levels, and favorable wetlands conditions across the state and nation, Michigan’s duck and goose hunters can expect a good hunt when the season kicks off next month.
Nationally, duck numbers increased slightly from last year while the local population saw solid increases over 2023’s record low numbers.
“Michigan spring breeding duck estimates were way up, including mallards,” DNR Waterfowl Specialist Barb Avers told Michigan Outdoor News. “Our banding activities over the past two months have matched that – we are seeing a lot of ducks.”
