Pennsylvania game lands system to grow by 5,300 acres

Pennsylvania game commissioners, at their recent quarterly meeting, approved acquisitions that would add nearly 5,290 acres to state game lands.
That involves the purchase of 13 properties.
Hunters and other users of Pennsylvania’s state game lands system should be aware that none of these additions are yet final. Some are contingent upon third parties receiving funding through grants or other means. What’s more, the Board of Commissioners’ approval of the agreements is but one step in the land-transfer process.

Boat from Lake Erie walleye scandal fetches $96,288.50 at auction

The Ohio DNR (ODNR) Division of Wildlife said that the fishing boat seized from Chase Cominsky, 37, of Hermitage, Pa., was sold through an online auction on July 23.
Cominsky and Jacob Runyan, 44, of Ashtabula, Ohio, were convicted in May 2023 of felony cheating and misdemeanor animal ownership charges for cheating in a Lake Erie walleye tournament. The forfeited boat, a 22-foot Ranger, was sold in an online auction that closed on July 23.

Christine Thomas: Luck of the draw – Wyoming antelope hunt on deck

I should have purchased a Powerball ticket on June 18. It was truly my lucky day.
That was the day that the Wyoming Game and Fish Department released the results of some of their drawings for big game tags. I had applied for an antelope tag, adding my husband, Stan, to my application, so we were in the drawing as a group of two.

Ryan Rothstein: Native prairies are made for whitetails (and many other critters)

I’ve been pretty hard to get ahold of (or even find) in the past month. I’m sure by now my better half probably thinks I’m avoiding her, but I’ve been aloof for an honest reason. Simply put, I’ve been out in the field here, there, and everywhere across the state, wandering through native prairies, with an occasional detour into the woods.
Before getting into it, I think we need to redefine what we’re talking about here. Growing up, I remember always hearing the terms “prairie,” “prairie region of Minnesota,” and “prairie pothole region.”

Steve Sarley: Some of my ‘must have’ lures for the tackle box

I have been told that the lures I tend to talk about are usually the old tried-and-true fish catchers. I even got a letter that accused me, “What’s the deal Sarley, you dinosaur? Haven’t you bought any lures in the last decade?”
Ask Mrs. Sarley that question and she’ll give you the answer because she sees the credit card bills. I buy plenty of lures. I think this is a good time for me to offer a list of the lures that I think every fisherman should have in their tackle box.
