I have become increasingly convinced during the past couple of decades that the Detroit River offers the best walleye fishing in the world.
Oh, you can argue that other places offer bigger average-sized fish or some other consideration, but when you combine the number of fish – and the numbers of folks fishing for them – with the pure fun of fishing you get jigging, I think just about everywhere else pales in comparison.

The Grayling Fish Hatchery’s history is a long one. It has been in existence for more than 100 years – established in 1919 by Rasmus Hanson and several fellow sportsmen including Henry and Edsel Ford. Their intent was to reintroduce Grayling to local waters.
When many of the fish did not survive, production was switched to raising brook, brown, and rainbow trout for release into the Au Sable River. The hatchery operated under private ownership until the state of Michigan bought the facility in 1926.

While the odds that a fresh, new federal Farm Bill will have been established by the time an extension to the current bill expires this fall are debatable, conservation groups nonetheless expressed approval of recent progress made regarding the massive bill’s conservation title.
On May 2, Delta Waterfowl issued a press release reporting that “the legislative process toward delivering a new U.S. Farm Bill has taken important first steps …” The release came on the heels of announcements by two key members of U.S. House and Senate ag committees who’d put forward their Farm Bill proposals.
