Wisconsin State Roundup: Tips on where to see great egrets closer to home

It’s always nice to hear from readers. Recently, reader Jim March contacted our columnist Christine Thomas to share his positive comments on her visit to the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge in Florida.
I should note here that Thomas receives a ton of good cheer from readers on her work in Wisconsin Outdoor News. I can tell readers I enjoy working with Thomas just as much as they enjoy reading her work. March shared some tips on where readers who can’t get to Florida might see great egrets closer to home.

49 fish, wildlife questions up for review April 8 during Wisconsin spring hearings

A new C&R hook-and-line lake sturgeon season on 18 waters, a total ban on wildlife shining starting Sept. 15, a reduced price for a senior patron license, allow railroad crossing for sportsmen, allow trolling with three lines per person on all inland waters, and creating two woodcock zones are just six of 49 advisory questions listed on this year’s spring hearing agenda for sportsmen in all 72 counties on Monday, April 8.

Wisconsin bill that ends antlerless deer harvest for four years in Northern Forest Zone now on Gov. Evers’ desk

The legislative bill that would end any antlerless deer harvest in Wisconsin’s Northern Forest Zone for four years has been passed by both chambers of the state legislature and reached Gov. Tony Evers’ desk on Tuesday, March 26.
Sportsmen throughout the north are waiting to see if the Evers signs the bill, vetos the bill or takes no action on the proposed legislation. If Evers decides to take no action, which can happen if the governor decides to remain neutral on this issue, the bill still becomes law.

Symposium shines light on new insight into chronic wasting disease

Chronic Wasting Disease or CWD is of great concern to deer biologists and sportsmen as well. We’re lucky here in New York State that none has been discovered in wild deer since 2005, but I feel we are simply dodging bullets.
Last month, we read with great interest the reported findings of deer research scientists as they were presented at the 4th International CWD Symposium in Denver.
